Urbanization
Americans migrate to the cities after the civil war, the urban population of the US grew from around 10 million in 1870 to more than 30 million in 1900. Most of the immigrants who poured into the US in the late 1800s lacked both the money to buy farms and the education to obtain higher-paying jobs. Thus, they settled in the growing cities. Rual Americans also began moving to cities at this time for better paying jobs. Cities had more to offer- bright lights, running water, plumbing and attractions.
